ShareThis Employees have the biggest hearts, it’s true!

April 12th, 2012

In addition to being some of the most tech savvy individuals known to man, many of the employees here at ShareThis spend their free time doing charity work.

Andi Matthews, New York based Account Executive, is gearing up for the Boston Marathon this monday. While this isn’t Andi’s first marathon, she puts forth a great deal of compassion to support local charities. To find out more about Andi’s team and to make a donation, visit the Team Brigham page. Please join us in wishing her luck on monday! We are so proud of you Andi!

Also no stranger to marathons is Andrew Dumas, Northeast Sales Director. This year, Andrew is training for his first NYC Triathlon to be held on July 8th. Andrew is fundraising for a charity near and dear to his heart, ALS. All donations to support his participation in the NYC Triathlon will go towards the MDA/ALS association and their continued research on muscle disease. Let’s help Andrew exceed his goal of $2800!

We are believers in the power of sharing, it’s an extra bonus that my coworkers here are some of the most compassionate people I know!

The ABC’s of ShareThis Sales

September 19th, 2011

So instead of writing today about the art of closing a deal or lessons in the ABC’s of sales (always be closing), I thought instead I would share some of the fun aspects of running the sales team at ShareThis.

I’ve been lucky enough to work at ShareThis for the past 16 months and manage an amazing team of 10 people.   While it’s extremely important to find the right caliber of people from a skills perspective, it’s also very important to me that I find the right people to get along with and fit in with the great dynamic of the existing team.  The sales team gets along like a family and I want to make sure we keep that dynamic as we continue to grow.  We definitely have a friendly amount of competition from region to region, but we also help each other as teammates and treat each other as friends.

We recently had our sales conference in New Orleans, as a reward for the team having exceeded their second quarter goals pretty significantly.  While there, we accomplished a ton of work with meetings running from 8am to 5pm for 2 days straight.  But, because we were in New Orleans, a city with great music, food and bars, we were able to have some fun there as well.  We attended an outdoor music festival with Anders Osborne, had an amazing dinner at Cochon, watched our CEO take the lead guitar with a local band, and had drinks at the oldest bar in the US.

We also are lucky enough to host fun events with our advertisers.  In New York, we recently took a group of clients to the US Open.  The day before had been rained out, so we had a very full lineup of Quarterfinal matches we were expecting to see, including Nadal and Roddick.  Unfortunately, the weather on the day we went was rainy as well.  When we got there, the event was delayed and they said they expected to play within 30 minutes.  30 minutes turned into 5 hours and we never saw any tennis.  But, we still had a great time with our clients.  We found some covering at a bar and spent a few hours eating, drinking and laughing.

It really is the people I work with and the clients we call on that make me happy to come to work everyday at ShareThis.

By the way, we are hiring in many markets including Atlanta, Detroit and Dallas.  If interested, please send your resume to adsales@sharethis.com

We’re On A Boat…With Summit Series

April 6th, 2011

A weekend on a boat is never a bad thing. This Friday through Monday, SVP Julie Greenhouse is lucky to be one of the 1000 industry experts selected to go aboard the “Summit At Sea,” a meeting of some of the world’s most interesting artists, politicians, philanthropists, scholars, entrepreneurs, technologists, and business people. Julie will join folks like Sir Richard Branson, Beth Comstock, Tony Hsieh, Russell Simmons, The Roots, Imogen Heap, Cameron Sinclair, and Peter Tunney.

The Summit Series is all about connecting new generations of leaders with each other to inspire, innovate, collaborate, and connect in business and in life. While aboard the ship, with a private island destination still undisclosed, these powerhouse minds will dive into a medley of opportunities to better themselves and the world around them. Opportunities like Shark Tagging with the University of Miami, and daily meditation classes with Lama Tenzin, learning survival skills from expert survivalist Cliff Hodges, and art exhibitions from the incredible photographer Patrick Hoelk.

The attendees are going to have daily lectures, workshops, and discussion panels on top of mind subject matter such as community building, solving world issues, raising money for charities, comparing notes, and generally reducing the silo effect of industry separatism.

We could not be more thrilled that ShareThis will be present on this ground breaking, floating think tank. Look forward to a rundown of what Julie shared, learned and experienced next week.

ShareThis Gets AlwaysOn Recognition for the Second Time

January 24th, 2011

Day-in and day-out we work hard to spread ShareThis’ message, so it’s always exciting to see the work pay off. Today we’d like to pass along some very good news: ShareThis was named to the AlwaysOn Top 100 Private Companies list, which recognizes digital media companies leading the way in the advertising, marketing, and content publishing industries.

The AlwaysOn list selects from hundreds of U.S. and international technology companies, which are nominated by industry leaders, investors and journalists. This is the second time in three years that ShareThis has been selected for the AlwaysOn list. In 2009, we won the “Technology Innovator in Web Services & Digital Content Publishers” award, and this year were recognized as part of the “B2B: Technology Enablers” category. For more information about the AlwaysOn list, read the full press release here.

We’re proud as an organization to be recognized by AlwaysOn, and also to have an opportunity to share our industry expertise and help other companies tap into and succeed within the digital media industry. We’ll keep going down our path, helping to enable engaging and interactive conversations online through the tool of sharing, and allow publishers and advertisers to better connect with their audiences.

The AlwaysOn winners will be officially honored at the OnMedia NYC 2011 conference, where our CEO, Tim Schigel, will be speaking on the opening night panel, “The Winners Circle,” on January 31, 2011 at The Paley Center for Media in New York City at 6:45pm. Tim will share the stage with the CEOs of BlueKai, Millennial Media, Better Advertising, as well as Tony Perkins, founder and editor of AlwaysOn, who is moderating the discussion. If you would like to catch up with Tim while you’re there, let us know at marketing@sharethis.com. To buy a ticket, visit http://alwayson.goingon.com/AOEvents/OnMedia/OnMedia-NYC-2011.

ShareThis now live on LiveJournal

March 16th, 2010

We’re excited to announce a new community using ShareThis — LiveJournal! Unlike a lot of other blog platforms, LiveJournal has long been a more connected community of interwoven personal journals on the web, and they have a big international community. With 26 million journals and 176,000 posts in the last 24 hours, it’s a fun place to discover (and share) new content. ShareThis will be replacing all Tell-A-Friend links on all journals. Both text links and a sharing icon can be found globally. Read more about it.

I just went from a blog about the demise of band Velvet Revolver to one about Radiohead – even the Russian president is rumored to have a blog here.  We’re excited to start seeing what LiveJournal readers like to share – and where they like to share it. If anyone has a LiveJournal, let us know what you think.
