In case your ShareThis widget loaded so fast that you missed it, we’ll tell you what’s up – we’ve revved up the speed so you can share like lightening.
The new design cuts down load times for ShareThis without sacrificing benefits like the mashed-up address book and automatic updates. Your address book fields will populate faster saving you some time (to read the ShareThis blog) and making your experience even better!
We have also included three new social web services: Yahoo! Buzz, LinkedIn and Sphinn. All can be found on the Social Web tab.
We’ll keep bringing you the best widget if you keep sharing. Deal?

WOW, that really is fast! Compared to the old version, this one is excellent!
Why was this changed? You are now loading sharethis.com with every page load. We can’t have that so now I’m forced to look for a different solution.
load time is faster but now there is a Javascript error. It’s even showing up on this blog page too.
Pete,
We have made several large architecture changes with this update of the ShareThis widget.
The new code was built with scale, speed and end-user caching in mind, you are correct that it is called on page load, but due to browser cache this happens only once per user and not for every page load. Moreover this takes place in the background so it does not slow down the publisher site. The great thing about this new code is that because of its design, the first time the end user visits a site with the ShareThis button it is cached and from then on if the user visits any site with the ShareThis button the widget is served from the users cache.
In the next few updates for the widget we will be separating the widget into more cacheable parts, and implement edge caching, which means even faster load times.
I will be happy to talk to you about a solution that fits your needs or if you have any more questions.
Thank you for the feedback.
Best,
-Manu

Donna,
I was wondering if you would be able to help me debug this issue you are seeing? I apologize but I was unable to reproduce the bug. Would you be able to give me more details about the error i.e. browser/os and also if you have any browser plugins installed. I am wondering if this is a conflict with a specific browser plug-in?
Thank you for your help, I am looking forward to your email.

I really like the new faster performance of ShareThis, but I’m seeing two problems:
1) The ShareThis link was positioned on the righthand side of my site, and previously, when this link was clicked, the ShareThis dialog would position itself so that it wouldn’t spill over to the left, but instead fit inside the window. Now, it spills over unless I set the offsetLeft param to a negative value. I shouldn’t have to set this — I liked its automatic behavior before.
2) ShareThis is no longer honoring the tabs param. I want to show the email tab first, but now it’s forcing the default tabs sequence.
Very fast, a great improvement in speed – but I agree with the other stuff that people are saying. I’ve just installed ShareThis on Scotland’s photo sharing and social site at http://www.scotster.com but experienced the same problem as Steve – having to set the offsetLeft param to avoid spillage. Cool though
I can’t even get the sharethis feature to work on my site. And, yesterday I noticed that when I clicked through to something I wanted to share, none of the fields were filled out for me.
I just tried it in Firefox and it works fine. I normally use IE 7.0.5730.11 for browsing.
What’s weird is it was working fine in IE just the other day.
JLP,
It seems like you got the button working on your site. If you are still having problems please let me know via email and I will be happy to look at it.
thanks,
Manu
